Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Malinois (malinois.app), a passive external security check-up service for web applications, operated as a solo project ("we", "us"). By using the free scan, creating an account, or subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to these Terms.

1. What the service is — and isn't

Malinois runs passive, non-intrusive checks against publicly reachable parts of a web application: what a normal visitor's browser would see, and endpoints that don't require authentication. We look for common security misconfigurations (exposed secrets, missing security headers, open database rules, and similar issues).

This is not a penetration test, and it is not a certified security or compliance audit. A clean result does not guarantee your app is secure, and results are informational only. We do not attempt to bypass authentication, inject payloads, brute-force credentials, or otherwise interact with a target beyond what a normal visitor or public endpoint reveals.

2. Ownership and authorization

You may only submit a URL for scanning if you own it or have explicit permission from the owner to have it checked. We rely on your confirmation of this when you request a scan. Submitting a URL you are not authorized to check is a violation of these Terms.

3. Accounts and subscriptions

Paid plans (Guard, Pro, Business) are billed monthly in advance through our payment provider, Polar Software Inc. ("Polar"), which acts as the merchant of record for these transactions. Your subscription renews automatically each billing period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time from your dashboard or by contacting us; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep access until then.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

5. Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We do our best to keep checks accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee completeness, and a report is a snapshot in time — new issues can appear after a scan runs. We are not liable for actions you take or don't take based on a report.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the three months before the claim arose.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms, including unauthorized scanning of third-party systems. You may stop using the service and cancel your subscription at any time.

8. Changes

We may update these Terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
